THURSDAY

Hey Friends! Hope you have Thursday night off.. there are two super rad shows coming up..

**First, at the BellJar, 6-9pm:

The art work of Jon Carling with special performances by Ema the Ghosts and Foxtail Brigade.

Photobucket

Come enjoy the inspiring and darkly humorous art of Jon Carling. His joyful ink drawings are reminiscent of tales told through the eyes of an awkward and brilliant child, milk fed on the likes of Grimms fairy-tale's and sci-fi movies from the 60's, staring skyscraper sized octopi. Part fantasy-part folklore, they are a delight for kids of all ages.

Being a Bay area native and growing up in the once rural grassy hills of El Sobrante He draws his inspiration from life all around. A graduate from Oakland's CCA with a degree in illustration he continues to live in Oakland, designing furniture and drawing little pictures in his home studio.

"I really don't limit myself to any particular subject matter or influence...I try and smash as many ideas into my work as possible...equally interpreting the way i saw life as a child and the way I see life today.

"

Come enjoy Jon's view on life thus far...

WILDILDLIFE

TARKUS [ Peru ] - 1972

exposure to Peruvian heavy prog balladeers TARKUS arrived this morning in the form of a hijacked con. i've been strung out on a progressive rock habit girthy enough to vomit any punx crudentials in vilolent disgust lately, and was looking for tracks by Emerson, Lake, & Palmer from the hallmarked TARKUS album via teh nets. after hustling my person out of the door on my bike to work post ipod insemination - kicked the first track into total denial. oxidized production hissed sassy overdriven guitars and liquid catty toungues sputtering through my ears - in SPANISH. hardly the familiar works of our painfully british brain salad pilots.

hardly a let down, TARKUS apparently was formed in '71 in Peru out of previous band TELEGRAPH AVENUE. apparently this was released in a limited inital run of 50, seems the southerners couldn't hang with the barbed venusian sour mash these cavaliers were privy to.

dig it:

INSPIRATION: TERRY T

INSPIRATION

From time to time, and more often in the afterhours, I have been labeled a "party princess" or accused of "camera whoring". Although I am not one to deny such accusations, I have to give credit to my upbringing: I was raised by gays (specifically Dee Jay Pee Play and Marina Bitch). I have learned the importance of entering with a bang, outdressing the party host, shade, and most importantly mastering the exquisite art of posing.

(examples)

I'd like to think I know a thing or two about what to do when faced with a camera lens (angles! face! fierceness!). However, I'm no Tyra Banks...and nobody puts me in my place better and harder than my friends. After mornings of browsing through last night's drunken party pictures, its become quite obvious that one individual truly outshines the rest. This bringer of the most brutal reality is the golden god below:

TERRY T.

Terry is truly a master of his craft, and as one who has photographed him on multiple occasions, I can honestly say that he never takes a bad picture. I would like to take the time to honor the perfection and flawlessness that he constantly exudes.

Thank you Terry T.
you NEVER let us down and ALWAYS make us look bad.

Moises 04:06 pm- And what have you seen today?

Karen 04:23 pm- A way to be happy, what the world was like before humans, a kitten (in my dreams)

Karen 04:28 pm- And you, Magic trick?

Moises 04:56 pm- A hole being covered up by the Oranges, a Jumping Jesus who claimed she was from some desert, a gang of sun thirsty turtles looking onward, and a Thank Goodness at the city water fountain.

Moises 05:13 pm- And you (now), Kite maker?

Karen 05:40 pm- Pigeons plump with crumbs, the tides gentle pull, and an earthquake waiting to happen.

Moises 07:19 pm- Do you think that the Earth is nervous?

Karen 08:35 pm- More than mystery meat.

Karen 08:40 pm- Or mayonnaise on a sunny day.

Moises 08:43 pm- Or the phone ringing after midnight.

(Remember to put some pot in your earthquake kit, because I've never known Karen to be wrong about anything. Now go make a sandwich for God...he's thirsty.)

A Message From Home.

I found this some couple of Saturdays ago under my door while getting into work. I don't know who created this work of art, but I would like to tip my hat to him/her/them. Readers, are you familiar with Gil Scot Heron's tune "Home Is Where The Hatred Is"? You gotta get hip to that jam ,baby. Get real hip.

A Book That Made Me Cry

Name All the Animals- Alison Smith

A memoir. Alison Smith writes about her family attempting to deal with the death of her older brother. He dies in the first five pages. Do you know how much 300 pages of tears weighs? A lot. Get ready to cry every 12 pages.
