Internet break

Hey everyone this is Ryan. I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while. I plan on fixing that. Here's an update on whats been happening:

Photobucket

Mike from White Pee let me borrow this delay pedal for my keyboard. I guess this is a great pedal. Multiple gearheads have commented on it. I've been spending a large chunk of my free time figuring it out. I pretty much have all the sounds I want to make locked in. I was taught classical piano and eventually jazz so I'm baffled when it comes to electronics.

Photobucket

This is my next purchase. It runs about $80.00 new which I thought was expensive, but apparently it's cheap for a pedal. Starting a "serious band" is expensive. PS invite me over to jam someone.

I've been listening to:

Arthur Russell

The Clean

Did you know the WWE wrestler "The Rock" and now serious actor Dwayne Johnson considered Arthur Russell a father figure? I guess Dwayne's mom was a professor at NYU and hung out with the downtown art crowd. Dwayne worked as a bouncer at some of the clubs Russell would perform at. Eventually they developed an intimate rapport. It's in some issue of the New Yorker. Ian told me that and it really tripped me out.

Speaking of the New Yorker, I've been reading it every week. I asked nana for a subscription for Christmas and of course she made it happen. I love you nana! We don't have a television in our house so this is my only news source.

A couple things I've been reading in addition to the New Yorker:

John Fante

Photobucket

Charles Mingus (I highly recommend this. The number of women he supposedly balls is out of control.)

Photobucket

I went to CCA last week for a Jonathan Franzen reading. Genius writer/genius riffer.

Mi Ami is my favorite band going in San Francisco right now. I'm tempted to say the best too.

I'm headed to Los Angeles next weekend with my girlfriend. Here is our plan so far, but feel free to give me some ideas via the blog or myspace.

Photobucket

LA County Museum of Art. I'd like to see the Chris Burden piece at night. Like in the photo.

Photobucket

Peres Projects. Terrance Koh is funny.

Photobucket

Opening Ceremony. My girlfriend is going to throw down here I'm sure.

I saw these photos in a blog Jabar turned me onto (2 or 3 Things I Know). If you've seen my bedroom then you know how much this speaks to my soul.

Get something to me soon.

I've got a good case of The Stone right now.
Kinda like a good pack of baseball cards. There's gonna be a few typos and bench warmers, but there should be a rookie card in here or there that will be worth something some day. Except maybe if they'll just end up being a bunch of bums or maybe if they get lucky (and you will be considered too) they may just die and be immortalized like James Dean or Kurt). Yeah man, I left his last name out. The same way that hippies say Jimi or Bob or Bob Or Jerry. Do you know both Bob's? Yeah you got it.
Iggy.
Patti.

Now we are here. Fucking Iggy kills. "Real cool time....a real cool time!!!"!!!
I'm putting out an Everly Brothers zine pretty soon. If you wanna submit something anything to it, please bring a drawing or some shit you would rather do instead to me at Recycled Records soon because I am getting tired of stretching out this really cool run on sentence. Put some shades on that baby, he's cool. Real cool. And finally...back to "a real cool time... a real cool time".

Also:
I need to be blessed by you (reader) with a scanner. I know you got one kickin' around and you're trying to live small but can't help cheating. Pass it along.
Or even if it has paint on it or even a crack, it would suit me fine.
I heard that Spacemen 3 records are worth like $200 now.
I believe that. Everybody loves those guys. Freaks too.
The Fairport Convention trip me out when I'm high.

Currently reading:

This is a living paper. I can't elaborate, because I'm too lazy.
Suggested donation=$1.00. Sliding scale.

Contribute to the zine sooner than later. I'm working on an Elvis Costello one next.
The Meat Puppets kick ass too. They slayed live. Lane changing on the highway of life. That is them up at the top. Where they belong.

Pure Pop For Now People #19..

These guys came outta Detroit. Zach has this on tape. I think it's catchy as a mutha fucka. They look kinda funny, but so does and omelette. Let's cook one.

The Rants...(Moses).

"Hi how are you" is out on lp (again) and it comes with a free download.
Got mine at Thrillhouse Records. Go. Daniel's birthday is on Friday and there is a show at The Knock-Out to celebrate. A bunch of bands are playing just songs by He.
Owsley's Children will be there (that's Me and Robert and Anders). Playing I think.
Either outside or inside. Most likely both.
I'm reading a book entitled "Money" by Martin Amis. Wikipedia that shit.
I just rung (rang?) out a big jock looking dude (maybe he's an ex)with big buck teeth and low surfer hair who bought a David Bowie 45 and The Fixx lp.
He paid with a Betty Boop Vis credit card. Blue Front potatoes taste good.
Why do bicyclists always stare down the rude cab drivers when they make a funny move on the streets? Plain old cars, I understand that. But cab drivers play goof moves all the time. Cab drivers are crazy fuckers. Like murderers and police. They have a born into thing. So why would mugging one do anything. Like, they don't get scared. And You look like a brat if you mug these fuckers too. So don't do it man. A cabbie will one day save you from getting herpes, or long distance crawling.

BONUS!
How To Make A Tape For A Couple Of Friends:
1) 60 minute tape
2) Pick at least one song for one of your friends that you want him/her to hear.
2a) It's nice if you think that they haven't heard it.
2b) It's nice if one of the other friends that this tape will reach loves song with you.
3) The rest of the songs are just good filler. Like garlic.
4) Dub it, daddio.

I have one a brewin' in my pot right now.

Muni Quotes #2009

"This is my 396th day without touching crack. If you put a mountain of crack right in front of me I swear, ah, SWEAR i'd give to...a BROTHER."

"Wait a minute, that ah, that came out wrong."

38 Geary inbound to shelter.

i am starting a metal band.

Dion, "d'Bzzrbtr" of Late Young here. the health of my current band is in the red, and the next year drenched in the fog of San Francisco indecision 2009. that means i'm starting a new band. a metal band. with various ingredients. you can read about them here:

Pure Pop For Now People #18.

I don't know much about this group, but I know this record is cool.
It was kicking around our kitchen for a while, getting minor play on the Fisher Price hi-fi and soon made it into Zach's room (it's his) and then into mine.
And then back into Zach's room (it is his you know) and I just brought it back into my room last night.

Zach told me that they were behind these guys a few days on the road, and they ran some pretty heavy tabs that they skipped out on. Tough.
Heavy Aftermath feel. I dig it. I dig it all.
